In addition to the millions of blooming flowers, Keukenhof has offered many artists the opportunity to display their works in this colourful environment since the official opening in 1949. Over the years, the park has built up a beautiful collection of statuary. This collection of art objects have been composed by Mrs. Ansèl Sandberg.
This flower garden is located near Lisse in Netherlands. It is usually called “Kitchen Garden” or “Garden of Europe.” As the name suggest, this is an exotic place full of natural beauty and elegance. Keukenhof is world’s largest flower garden.
Where Keukenhof is situated now, was a hunting area in the 15th century. Herbs for the kitchen of the castle of Jacoba van Beieren were also collected here; hence the name Keukenhof.
Keukenhof is the place to see spring blossom. The park is unique, world famous, and has been one of the most popular destinations in the Netherlands for sixty years now. Haven’t seen Keukenhof? At the moment the estate belongs to a Foundation. On the initiative of the Lisse mayor of that time and a number of leading flower bulb growers and exporters, an open air flower exhibition was organised here for the first time in 1949. This expanded to an annually recurring event that has always drawn great numbers of visitors from all over the world. This is how Keukenhof became the park that we now know.
